Sticks 'n' Stones; broken bones...
Hi folks,
It's been a little while since the last blog and package post and to be honest haven't been working on a new pack either. I'm at home and healing up from a (minor) bike accident in which I broke my elbow; that makes it a bit hard to edit and cut wav files.
The last 2 weeks I did spend a lot of time in my studio thou! I thoroughly tested the demo of Presonus Studio One, actually it's a very nice DAW, but I'm using a lot of features from Cubase that are not represented (yet) in Studio One. Check it for yourself, you can download the demo here. Since I'm not able to do anything in and around the house or shoot downhill on one of my bikes; I decided to upgrade my Cubase. I was still working with v4.5.2 and Cubase5 has been around for a couple of months and right now I have the time to learn the new features in it.
After 3 days of test-driving the v5.1 I'm stunned; I read a lot of bad mojo on the boards about crashes, poor performance and what not. I did not experience one single crash and the new track I'm working on has some real bad ass effect chains, automation's and routing schemes in it. It looks nice. It's fast, it sounds better then the previous one (overall crispier and more sparkling in the highs). Maybe it's a combination of C5 and my new audio interface (Lexicon Omega Studio), but I'm a happy camper.
There are some great new "toys" to play with, Variaudio is da bomb!! The Pitch Corrector is awesome (Yey! Now everybody can sound like Kanye or Akon). And using the beat sequencer in combination with Drum Agent One is really a nice and fast way to create beats, I use it with my Korg padKONTROL, so I really have that MPC vibe going on here. Wicked!
So sorry guys, no new soundpacks yet, but I have a lot of good ideas and I did sample some of my sound design experiments for later cutting up. Meanwhile I want to finish some tracks too and recover from that broken elbow. Will keep you posted! Oh yeah and check out Jeroen Breebaart's latest creation; Isone Pro.
Rock on!

Downloads are back up
The download section which also holds the description of the soundpacks is back up with a small change thou!
All the download files are a so-called .nzb files, it's not the actual soundpack! You have to have access to a newsserver and you also need a newsreader like Alt.Binz or NewsRover. More explanation about usenet and newsreaders can be found here. The soundpacks are located @ alt.binaries.sounds.samples. For those that have no access to usenet the RapidShare LinkList is still online too. I'm still looking for a legal Torrent site which does not charge you or me for the usage, LegalTorrents does not seem to be interested. Meanwhile I'm back @ the drawingboard freaking around with the 14 days demo of the UAD Fatso Jr/Sr plugin. It rocks!! Why the downloads are down
SOUNDrecource's come back did not get unnoticed, in the two weeks time that the site is up and running again It almost generated 5,5 gigabytes of bandwidth! I already received a formal warning of the Hoster that my site is moving ten times as much juice as the average site on their server and that I have to take action. If I won't do that the site will be shut down for a time by them, so I hope it's not to late yet!
This all forces me to use different ways to bring the soundpacks to you, I decided to do the following; I will upload the packs to Usenet, namely alt.binaries.sounds.samples. The .nzb links will be posted at the bottom of each soundpack description. For those that don't have access to Usenet I will upload them to a public torrent site and replace the current package zips with a torrent file. And for those that don't know how to work those; well I will upload all the packs to RapidShare again and the download links will be at the bottom of each article again. Sorry for the hassle, but there is no other way to fix this, I don't want to charge for the packs; but the donations are not really coming in, so upgrading to a commercial server package that handles this kind of bandwidth is out of the question. Sorry Folks! :( So the downloads will be up again asap, but it all will take me some time to organize. Hyde |
Mirror sites for the downloads
A small update:
Still looking for a descent legal torrent site and still need to upload to usenet too, meanwhile the packs can be grabbed again @ 2 the following 2 mirrors: RapidShare mirror and the mirror made by KVR member Xybre. Nj0y! Hyde Back on track again! It all took way longer than expected (and hoped for), with the first two hacks of the site I could cope, but the last hack did severe damage to the database and I could not fix that, not even with the back ups I had. This is why I abandoned Wordpress and switched to a different platform.
Of course this went sour also; my old Hosting provider and registrar decided to change something on the server settings. All of this resulted in my site(s) not properly functioning anymore. So I had to switch to a different company. But now SOUNDresource.eu is back, the v2 setup is almost done now, still working a bit on the fine-tuning here and there. I’m also working on a new sound pack and Solid.Structures; another one that I whipped together is already up for downloading @ the download section! The description of the packs may differ a bit from the v1 site, I had to re-write most of them because the old database got corrupted and the old stuff was not cached on the Internet. You can find the packs in the download section, the Creative Commons license is included in each pack. I also took the liberty of a bit more off-time to come up with a cool new design, I hope you like it. Still playing with some site add-on thoughts; shoutbox, contactform and some other cool stuff. Meantime you can leave comments @ MySpace or at the KVR SOUNDresource topic I hope the page hits will go up as fast as they did when I started! Anyhow, thank you for patience and I hope you’ll enjoy the new SOUNDresource site! Hyde |
